Is it Time to Get an iPhone?

Affordable, it is the one word no one has used to describe iPhones in the tons attention it has received. However on top of all the new features, and they are impressive, the price has dropped on the iPhone 3g to a starting price of $199 according to Apples website. One thing to watch out for is the the dock isn’t included with it like the original iPhone they are charging $30 for the the dock which is a huge bummer in my opinion.

Call Quality
The new iPhone 3g makes impressively clear calls. You might not notice it by itself but, side by side tests showed a big difference.

Battery Life
Apple states the iPhone 3G’s battery life is at: 10 / 5 hours talk on GSM / 3G (respectively), 5 hours 3G data, 6 hours WiFi, 24 hours music and 7 hours video. The test reports I have seen prove this out.

Refinements
The earphone connector is now flush with the device, this allows any headphones to work without an adapter. The GPS very fast for a phone and you could even use it to replace a car mounted service.

In Conclusion:

For the money, you’re going to have a hard time finding a better device for two hundred bucks, so if you are in the market for a new smart phone take a look at the new iPhone 3g.

What Internet Browser is the Best?

Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Google Chrome, Safari. So many choices how do you know what is the best? There are many “expert” opinions based on different philosophies of how software should be sold, personal biases and the like. Let’s approach it from the standpoint of what you want to do online, and what you want out of your browser can determine what one is the best for you personally.

Let me start by stating my personal bias and why. My favortie web browser is Firefox. It has been faster on than Internet Explored or IE in every computer I have owned, but the main reason I use it is for the addons. When I design website the addons are something I can’t live without, those extra tools and options make Firefox my browser of choice.

If you are looking for speed though, I have seen tests that say the speed comes down to Google Chrome and Opera. I like both of these search engines, although right now I think Opera is the more robust of the two, Google Chrome will get there.

For compatibility issues, I would always have internet explorer on my computer. Some websites don’t work with anything else properly so I like to have it there. It isn’t my favorite by a long shot but I always have it installed in case I need it and I recommend you do to. While browser hijackers can strike any web browser I see the most problems with them in IE, also it is harder to repair after the malware is removed than the other browsers. This is just some of my experience and my own bias. Post a comment and let me know what you think.
