Panicked, a customer called me recently, a company had called her and told her that her computer was suffering from serious problems. They had told her that it was sending out viruses and attacks and wanted to show her the problem. They walked her through getting to event viewer over the phone and showed her messages in there that according to them showed serious problems. The only way to fix this problem? Purchase the software the company was offering of course. fortunately my customer asked a few questions and the scammers hung up on her. Still unsure about what was going on she called me.
I was able to let her know that all those scary problems in event manager don’t mean much usually and that all Windows systems have messages in there, at least all the ones I have seen in years of tech work.
Don’t let anyone pull this on you either. Her computer hadn’t sent out any “signals or viruses” an auto dialer called her and connected her to a scam artist. They will try to do the same thing to anyone, so knowledge is your weapon. If you are not sure about some phone call or scary pop up message it is probably a scam. You can always call a computer technician that you trust ( they should never charge you for a question like this ). So have fun out there in cyber space and stay safe too.
